Handmade Holiday Cards

Trouble with handmade greeting card - warping?

I made some cute cards for thank-yous, for Christmas gifts, and all I had was some of that kid's glue that's purple and then changes to clear. I used it to attach various cuts of paper, a cute little vintage mini-card, buttons etc.. The cards' appearances came out great but the card stock warped a bit, making the cards look kind of amaturish. I used card stock made for cards, from the craft store so I'm thinking it was the glue? HELP! What better glue to use??? I want to make more cards this year, for Valentine's, birthdays and a congratulations/engagement card for my brother in law. What about those adhesive "roller" things, that work like "White Out" rollers, only it's a thin film of adhesive? Anybody use that?

  1. Rubber cement is good
  2. copydex ... it does stink of fish though!
  3. If possible, put the glue on the item you are attaching to the card, rather than the card itself. Use small areas of glue rather than large areas and use as little as possible. If needing to glue large areas, eg when applying glitter, do small segments at a time, allowing it to dry before doing the next segment. If needing to attach large items, try just gluing in spots or only arround the outside or the item. I'm not familure with the glue you described, but if it is a liquid glue, try applying it with a paint brush to make it spread more thinly and evenly. This should reduce warping.
  4. One thing I use instead of glue would be the mounting tape I use in my scrapbook.
  5. Yeah, that's what I use, the "roller thing". It's real easy to use and works like a charm. Much better than kids glue. http://www.myscrapsandscribbles.com/store/hermafix/hermafix.htm
  6. tombo mono glue, its a runner type of glue that you pull back on,it leavs a streak of sticky stuff on your card, btw,i also make greeting cards,i took it up in florida three years ago.i love doing this, its a lot of fun .im glad i saw your question!
  7. Oh goodness!! :-) I never used that kind of glue. No matter how much you use (a little or a lot), it seems it either warps or it doesn't stick for very long. Plus, you never know when those types of glue are archival safe. I use the "roller thing" as it works wonders. My personal favorite is the Dotto (removable... don't get the permanent). However, it can get kind of expensive if you're making a lot of cards. In that case, I would recommend using double-sided scotch tape. Works like a charm!! Good luck!
  8. Sounds like this glue made the card much too wet. I use the roller glues for every things scrap booking and card making and i think they are fantastic and invisible unless your using them on vellum, but you get special ones for vellum now. Don't be put off. If you go to your local craft shop they should have lots of different glues for every type of craft.
