Handmade Holiday Cards

When making handmade cards do you buy blank cards or fold your own? Where do you buy your cards from?

  1. I made a collage of pics of me and my beau and stuck it onto an old Christmas card, to make a valentines card
  2. Well i go out and buy plain card from my local craftsmaking shop
  3. real, handmade cards....I have used an old blender and water and chopped up paper, recycled it in the blender to make custom paper cards...labor intensive, but no two are the same and really, really nice....people know they are handmade and it is fun too....it helps to have have the screens to pour the liquid/paper into for drying...
  4. I fold my own for a few reasons... 1. It's cheaper to buy cardstock paper than pre-folder cardstock cards (in my experience) 2. You get a better variety of colors/prints to choose from 3. I sew on my cards so I need tri-folded ones and those are hard to come by in stores (in my area) I have bought pre folded cards and cardstock paper from Hobby Lobby, Michaels (both craft stores) and even from Walmart.
  5. If you are going to hand paint or rubber stamp the card I would use Strathmore blank cards....if you are going to decorate the card using stickers, papers, etc. then you could use a less expensive blank card. Both can be found at Michaels or JoAnnes...good luck
  6. I don't buy the packs of blank cards. I buy cardstock paper in different colors, and cut that on my trimmer. To get started I also bought the pound package of cut up colored papers.
  7. I always buy blank cards. They look much more professional than if you fold your own. I have bought them from AC Moore, Walmart, and Michaels.
  8. Hi Kirsty-I've been making handmade cards for 4 years now, but only as a hobby. I got into the habit of sending one to my (don't go there "please"-lol) and she has her old ladies bridge game at her house every wednesday. From these sweet little old ladies, they actually started a business for me unknowingly. One had a birthday coming up and I overheard, so I made a card and gave to my mother in law a few days before the woman's birthday.....well, this woman was overwhelmed, speechless. Within 2 days I got a call from her son asking if I would make an invitation card assignment for "250" clients for his company., and he offered a price per card. He did not wait to ask me how much I want per card nor was money as issue to this man. You need to get what is called a "bone folding crafter's tool"-It looks like a shoe-horn that people use to put on their shoes, and is vital to have if you purchase "unfolded" cards. (Only costs £3.00-£5.00 depending where you shop) If you don't want to buy the bone-paper creaser/scorer to put a professional fold, then you have to buy "scored" cards. Good luck to you. This New Year's resolution for me is not to purchase "one card" from the store, regardless of any circumstances! I hope this helped you. Go onto http://www.ebay.co.uk alternatively and key in "bone paper creaser" and then you have to choose from the next drop down category: choose "crafts". Have fun!
  9. If you are in the UK you can buy discounted card making and papercraft products from www.abakhan-online.co.uk.
  10. I fold over a sheet of card and stick a cross-stitched picture on front and a nice verse inside if I really like the person I even spend some time and effort on it. hobbycraft has all you will ever need including stampers
  11. Use blank cards but score the middle with a blunt knife to stop the spine breaking
